Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can any flower be transformed into a pearl?
A.

Every natural flower, fresh or dried, can be transformed into a pearl. We can even fashion pearls from eternal roses.

Q. How many flowers are needed to craft my pearls?
A.

A standard size rose allows the creation of ten medium sized pearls (6 to 8mm). To be more precise, if you have any other kind of flower, estimate that you will need to send us a minimum:

  • 12 grams of petals, of fresh flowers
  • 3 grams of petals, of dried flowers
Q. If I do not have a flower which have sentimental value, may I still purchase one of your jewels?
A.

Of course! We regularly make pearls out of regular flowers purchased from local merchants. This production allows us to craft jewellery to offer to clients such as you who are interested in the product but are without a flower memento. These same flowers are used when we attend expositions or trade shows to illustrate the style of jewellery we make.

Q. Keeping my flowers fresh
A.

We suggest that you send us dried flowers in order to avoid deterioration during the delivery. To obtain the best results, here are the two methods proven to be most successful:

Method #1: Regroup your flowers and tie them with an elastic or a string. Take off any excess foliage and then suspend your bouquet upside down in a cool and dark area.

Method #2: Remove each petal then place them on a flat surface. In order to avoid damaging the petals, hold the flower in one hand while carefully removing it from its stem with the other.

*In both cases, you must avoid placing the petals in a plastic bag or container, or one made of glass. This could trigger the flower’s mold process and the flowers would be unusable.

Once dried, follow this advice when sending us your flowers:

  • Separate your flowers according to their colour and/or kind. Tissue paper is ideal. Remember that the rule against plastic or glass containers still stands to avoid mold.
  • Send us your flowers in a box or paper envelope; avoid plastic. Take note that the best option is the delivery by box since the flowers can be whole.
  • Make sure to indicate your return address on the packing as well as your personal instructions for the flowers.
  • Lastly, if you have a preference as to the pairing of flower colour/kind and jewel, please indicate so by identifying the flower to the piece of jewellery. For more information, take a look at the link « What colour will my pearls be? »
Q. My flowers are already dried
A.

Even if your flowers have been dry for over a decade, it is still possible for us to turn them into pearls! Since we understand how important these flowers are to you, we guarantee that we will take great care of them from the time we receive them until their end product as a beautiful souvenir jewel. In order to ensure their undamaged delivery, we recommend certain precautions:

  • Separate your flowers according to their colour and/or kind. Tissue paper is the best option, and plastic should still be avoided in order to avoid mold.
  • Send us your flowers in a box or paper envelope; avoid plastic. Take note that the best option is the delivery by box since the flowers can be whole.
  • Take care of indicating your return address on the packing as well as your personal instructions with your flowers.
  • Lastly, if you have a preference as to the pairing of flower colour/kind and jewel, please indicate so by identifying the flower to the piece of jewellery. For more details, take a look at the link « What colour will my pearls be? »
Q. How many pearls can you make with a flower?
A.

A standard size rose allows the creation of ten medium sized pearls (6 to 8mm). If you have any other kind of flower, estimate that you will need to send us a minimum:

  • 12g of petals, of fresh flowers
  • 3g of petals, of dried flowers
Q. What colour will my pearls be?
A.

Your pearls will obtain a similar colour to that of your completely dried flower. It is likely that your flower will darken due to the completely natural oxidation process. This process will result in the uniqueness of your pearl. Do you want it completely black? Feel free to request it! A black pearl can be obtained by letting the oxidation process run it course.

Q. What size will my pearls have?
A.

The pearl format pre-established by us for each specific jewellery style. Your pearls will then correspond to the size that you see in the images from our website and/or catalogue. If you want your pearls to have a different size, it is important that you let us know upon delivery of your flowers to our company or at the latest a week after. Later than that, it is likely that we will already have started making your pearls and it will be too late to make the necessary changes.

Q. Will my pearls be made exclusively from my flower petals?
A.

Of course! We take great care of your flowers. To guarantee this, we make sure to clean our workspace between each flower production, even if the flowers we use are for the same client. These measures are taken in order to preserve the unique colour of your pearl. We invite you to read the first blog written by Mrs. Josée Parent, the founder and proprietor of De Fil en Pétales. You will obtain background information on how the importance of mementos in her own life played a role in the business she created. Read it and let us know!

Q. Are there any specific precautions to be taken in order to preserve my pearls?
A.

As with leather and silk, your pearl is an organic product that is precious. Here is some advice which will allow you to preserve your jewel:

  • We recommend you remove your jewellery when taking a bath or shower. This rule also applies to any sporting activities and of course, swimming.
  • As with any other jewellery, it must be removed when exposed to sunlight, even during tanning sessions.
